Pennsylvania Station Ceases News Operations

As of Friday, Blue Ridge News 11 in Lancaster, PA has stopped doing news.

The station says that it will instead focus on local sports. "Our viewers in northern Lancaster County are committed to local sports and BRC11 will be working to bring more live events into our viewer’s homes every week," the station said in a social media post.

It has had two daily newscasts, the "Early Report" at 5 and 5:30 p.m. and the "Evening Reports" at 10 and 10:30 p.m. Local news archives on its website date back to 2013.

"I want to thank all of you for allowing us into your home each night to tell your stories. It has been an honor and a privilege," news director Shannon Murphy said in a tweet minutes before the last broadcast Friday.

Lancaster Online says that this summer, Blue Ridge will add telecasts of the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs and the Reading Phillies.

In the fall the channel plans to air over 120 high school sports events from the Lancaster-Lebanon League and PIAA District.

In a tweet Friday, the News 11 Sports team said it was their final newscast.

"It has been an absolute pleasure covering local sports in Northern Lancaster County," the tweet said.
