More Cuts at ABC O&O

FTVLive reported that  KABC News Director Rob Elmore and Assistant News Director Renee Washington called in a number of "permalancers" and gave them some bad news. 6 of the longest "permalancers" were called into the meeting and told that the ABC O&O is essentially cutting their positions and will only fill six freelance shifts per week starting at the end of June.

Now sources tell FTVLive that these aren't the only cuts going down at KABC.

We here that just about everyone is affected…staffers and freelance…no matter what the story.

Sources say that the Assignment desk has been told that they can’t launch the helicopter without the consent of the News Director or the Deuce.

The Desk has been told keeping overtime down is a top priority.

Insiders tell FTVLive that there were eleven retirees at KABC between September and January—four management and seven union jobs (NABET).

No replacements hired…the manager responsibilities were dumped in the laps of those who remain, and the NABET folks—writers, shooters, engineers—were replaced by "permalancers".

"Yet the station still managed to find the money to send two (Reporter/Photographer) plus a producer, to London for the big royal wedding coverage," said one KABC insider.
