Rochester Weatherman Back with a New Heart

While Weather Anchors love to tout their newest radar or their fancy new graphics system, one Rochester, NY weatherman has a really impressive new gadget.

A brand new heart.

WROC's Scott Hetsko has been off the air for months while undergoing a heart transplant. He returns to work on Sunday. The idea that it is the same day as the Super Bowl on his station and it's ratings, surely had nothing to do with it. Right?

"It's been a long journey," he said, "and I'm happy to get back to work."

Hetsko, the chief meteorologist at WROC, has been off the air since June 23, when a failing heart forced him to quit working. He had been battling cardiomyopathy for six years.

He said last year that without a heart transplant, he probably would not have lived more than a year. He underwent that life-saving procedure in September.

A critical part of the rehabilitation process is for his body to accept the foreign heart. He announced on Twitter on Thursday that his biopsy showed no rejection at all, clearing him to get back in his weather lab.
