Struggling WFLD took a big step in becoming relevant in the Chicago news game.

The station has hired Tom Doerr as the new News Director at the station. Doerr is a proven leader with a good track record.

He was a former ND in Washington, Miami and Tulsa. He comes to Fox Chicago from KRIV in Houston.

“Tom has a fresh approach to local news and an ability to recognize meaningful stories within a community. He is an exceptional leader, with a natural news instinct and a proven track record of success and we are excited to welcome him to our station,” WFLD GM Dennis Walsh said about Doerr.

WFLD has been struggling for years to find not only viewers but a direction with their news department. The hiring of Doerr should help them do both.
