New GM Named in San Francisco

David Wurtzel has been appointed as the new president and general manager of ABC O&O KGO in San Francisco.

Chad Matthews, president of ABC Owned Television Stations, announced the appointment, noting that Wurtzel will be responsible for overseeing the station's entire operations and its related businesses. This move marks a significant leadership change for the prominent local news outlet.

Wurtzel brings nearly two decades of experience within The Walt Disney Company to his new role. Most recently, he served as the vice president of Operations and Business Planning for ABC Owned Television Stations in Los Angeles and Fresno. His background as a finance executive is extensive, encompassing strategic planning, contract negotiations, labor relations, and financial reporting.

Matthews expressed confidence in Wurtzel's ability to enhance ABC7's success, citing his strong analytical skills and commitment to operational excellence. Wurtzel, in turn, praised the KGO team, highlighting their recent recognition by the Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and their dedication to thorough and professional reporting on critical issues for Bay Area residents.
