This Won't Work....
/For the better part of a decade, FTVLive has been pushing stations to enter the streaming space and create content just for the streaming platforms.
Tegna is trying to do that, but not very well.
Tegna’s WXIA (Atlanta) sent out a release saying, that it is excited to announce the launch of "11Alive News: The Take," a new streaming news program hosted by meteorologist Chesley McNeil. The program offers viewers in-depth conversations with newsmakers and experts on the most pressing issues facing metro Atlanta.
Here’s their pitch:
Each day, McNeil engages in thought-provoking discussions with guests who offer local perspectives on a wide range of topics, from breaking news to ongoing issues impacting the Atlanta community. "The Take" goes beyond the headlines to explore the "why" behind the news, fostering a deeper understanding of the events shaping our city, state and world. “We are thrilled to launch this new program that provides a platform for meaningful conversations and local viewpoints,” said Carol Fowler, Director of Content at 11Alive.
First off, why is the weather guy hosting what sounds more like a news program?
Second, is there anything in that pitch that makes you say, “Oh boy, I want to watch that”?
If you’re going to offer up a streaming show, make it something that people might want to watch.
Tegna is trying similar streaming shows at some of their other stations and most are equally as bad.
This is what happens when you have middle-age people who work in TV news and try to come up with a streaming show.
Look at the view count on YouTube.
Is that worth the effort?
Hell, I did a tour of my house and it got over 8 thousand views and over 6,500 on the first day it was posted. I’m just one guy and not a TV station that can promote a streaming show all over the place.
It’s nice Tegna is trying, but you have to be more creative.
Just saying…
