Not the Best Debut

The FTVLive inbox blew up with people commenting on the new look CBS Eveningg News.

Judging by the emails and social media posts, I don’t think CBS knocked it out of the park.

Here are a couple of takes from Journalists.

I watched tonight's debut of the revamped CBS Evening News.  Here are my thoughts.

The bad:

1.  BORING.  It took me everything to not pick up the remote and switch to Nightly or World News.

2.  They led with DeepSeek.  Really?  Completely not visual.  ABC and NBC both had highly visual packages on the immigration raids which was a 15 second VO at CBS.  They spent the first 9 minutes of the newscast talking about China.  I don't care.  I care about what is going on here at home.

3.  John and Maurice - not the most enthusiastic delivery.  Pretty dry.  John seemed to do most of the talking.

4.  Looked like a nexus of PBS News Hour and a weird Scripps newscast.

5.  Not sure what CBS is trying to accomplish here but I don't know why anyone would watch this if tonight's newscast is going to be representative of what they're going to do moving forward.

6.  My first and last time watching.  I'll stick to Nightly.  Not that I was expecting much to begin with.

The good:

1.  Nice looking set and graphics.

Hey Scott,

This is horrible.  We are 15 minutes in and this is the first interview with an actual human.

The graphics are stupid and juvenile.

Margeret's background was ridic.  Put her behind a desk not a cheap green screeen.  Why was she not sitting and her sunday spot or the Nora desk?

It almost feels like the PBS news.  Facts. No fluff.  Only long descriptions of facts.

Who on God's green earth was giving this a thumbs up.

As bad as Nora was, this is 10x worse.  Not sure what audience they are going after...apparently people who have no access to news or social media or anything.  '

Oh god. Now they are giving a full weather forecast.

I haven’t watched the CBS Evening News for the past 15 years. After watching tonight, I think it will be another 15, before I tune in again.

I guess the good news for CBS is it can only go up from here.
