Former WBBM (Chicago) News Director Carol Fowler has just been named the new News Dire……errrrrrr…. Director of Content at Tegna’s KSDK in St. Louis.

Here is the internal memo that went out to the staff and was obtained by FTVLive:

I am delighted to announce that Carol Fowler has been named Director of Content at 5 On Your Side. Some of you met Carol over the summer, when she visited St. Louis as a part of our extensive interview process.

Carol joins 5OYS with a wealth of experience and, notably, a degree from MIZZOU’s School of Journalism for you Tigers fans.

After spending her early career as an on-air reporter based at the state capitol in Springfield, Illinois, she worked as a news writer in Chicago. Carol quickly moved into news leadership roles, overseeing news operations at three stations in Chicago, the country's third largest market.

She joined Viewpoints.com(now PowerReviews) as VP of content strategy, immersing herself in the emerging digital industry. A couple of years later, she left to co-found a digital agency. Three years later, in October 2017, she joined Chicago Sun-Times as Senior Vice President, Digital News Products.

Carol is a veteran journalist, who will complement managing editors Jordan Palmer and Ryan Dean in executing our integrated breaking news strategy.

Carol is married to her husband, David, who will be joining her in St. Louis very soon. She is also the mother of two daughters, Christine and Kate. Christine and her husband live in St. Louis, which is part of Carol’s interest in relocating to our remarkable city.

Her first day in the office will be September 3rd. Please join me in warmly welcoming Carol to the 5OYS team! Additionally, I want to personally thank all of our news leaders who stepped- up over the last six months to ensure our content reigned supreme. As a content team, we covered flooding, a 63- day Stanley Cup run and of course breaking news as the trustworthy provider our community expects. Mike Bush offered to serve as managing editor of our 10p, too. A special shout-out to Ryan Dean and Jordan Palmer, who were our interim content leaders.

We have great momentum as Carol arrives. Our 5a show is currently delivering a 35% A25-54 share. 6a, 34% share. 4p, 36% share. 6p, 33% share. 10p, 32% share. And our digital performance is ranked “top third” within our company. I am incredibly proud of what we, together, have accomplished and cannot wait to see how we continue to flourish. Being #1 is within reach!

Best,

Alicia
