It was news that shocked a number of people in the Big Apple.

Longtime WABC Weather Anchor Bill Evans is out the door at the ABC O&O.

Evans joined WABC in 1989 and has abruptly left the station. His bio was pulled from the stations website and his station branded Facebook page is gone.

He took to his personal FB page and Instagram to say that he has left the station.

Word is that Evans has been off the air for a couple of weeks and many thought it was just a vacation. But, when the Feb book started and he was still missing, the rumors heated up.

The staff then learned that Evans was gone and not coming back. There would be no on air goodbye and his bio was scrubbed from the WABC website.

So, now the rumors heat up even more.

Was he fired?

Is he making a move to another Big Apple station?

Did WABC not renew his contract?

Evans says he looks “forward to returning to television” and he says it will be in the “near future.”

That certainly sounds like someone that has another job lined up in town.

Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking on his part.

This much is true, until he resurfaces, the rumors will continue as to why he left and why a guy that worked almost 30 years at the station is gone, just like that?

Stay tuned…
