Juror Claims They Would Have Lowered the Hammer on CNN
As you know, CNN recently lost a defamation and settled before the case went to the punitive damage stage.
It might be a good thing that CNN settled, because jury’s foreperson said she would have awarded up to $100 million and confirmed the jury was trying to send a message.
In an interview with Variety, foreperson Katy Svitenko said “The message the jury wanted to send was to not only CNN but to all media that the general public is fed up with fake news and partial truths,” she said, “Reporting must be unbiased, true, and complete.”
Svitenko said that five of the six jurors agreed from the beginning that CNN was liable, but that it took some time to win over the sixth juror.
