More Leave WISH before Affiliation Change

Some more staffers are getting out of WISH in Indianapolis before the station looses their CBS affiliation at the end of the year.

Late last week, reporter Jessica Hayes left the station to take a weekend anchor position with WTTV, industry sources said.

WISH weekend evening anchor and reporter Daniel Miller also is departing the station, sources said, for a job with the Fox affiliate in Boston.

Miller will be with WISH through mid-January.

The departures came on the heels of WISH laying off a handful of off-camera employees earlier this month in what appears to be part of a restructuring effort prompted in August when CBS officials decided to change their local affiliation from WISH to WTTV.

Hayes joined WISH in January 2011. She came to WISH from CBS affiliate WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, where she was a general assignment reporter and weather forecaster.

Miller joined WISH in June 2005 as a general assignment reporter. Before working at WISH, he was a weekend anchor and reporter at WBBJ-TV in Jackson, Tennessee.

He also previously worked at WRTV-TV Channel 6 in Indianapolis as the weekend assignment editor.

Since the August announcement from CBS, WISH also has lost a number of employees who do not appear on camera.

WISH General Manager Les Vann said the station is growing its local news presence. Vann told IBJ that WISH is restructuring and will be adding staffers through January.

I'm not the GM, but if you were losing your affiliation on January 1st and your goal was to gear up news, I would have the staff already in place and not start adding them after the switch.

Just saying....
