Somebody's Lying and We Think we Know Who
Wayne County Prosecutor Kim Worthy says she has received requests for warrants over the alleged assault involving WJBK (Detroit) Fox 2 reporter Charlie LeDuff and a security guard. It all happened after the St. Patty’s Day parade in Corktown a week ago.
In his police report, LeDuff provides lots of details about what happened that day to him and his brother, who he says were victims in an attack.
But days before he filed his police report, WXYZ asked LeDuff what happened and he didn’t remember much.
“I’m not really sure. I was offered to come have a drink. It turned into a fight, trying to get guys off me and my brother,” said LeDuff, who also wasn’t clear on accusations that he urinated in public.
“I don’t remember taking a leak,” he said. “No, I don’t think I was standing in the street doing that. I think I was behind the tent.”
The tent LeDuff is talking about was set up at Michigan Avenue and Brooklyn Street, where witnesses say they saw the Fox 2 reporter urinating.
Sunny Miller was providing security at a private party at the tent and says he was asked to invite LeDuff inside to stop the sidewalk sideshow.
“When he was peeing, I called Fox 2 News right to the newsroom,” said Miller. “And I tried to tell them to come get Charlie. He is peeing in public. He is messed up. He is wasted. You need to get him out of here.”
Miller claims when LeDuff came inside the tent, he cussed at three female Detroit police officers, calling them “whores.”
According to Miller’s police report, LeDuff spit in the face of the man who threw the party, then wrestled him to the ground. When Miller and another man tried to break it up, Miller said LeDuff bit him.
“He bit me and he kept biting me,” said Miller.
Both men claim in their police reports that they were assaulted. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy is reviewing the claims. Today, she said she would not comment on the incident until a decision is made whether to charge anybody. But Miller, who says he respected LeDuff as a reporter before the alleged incident, is adamant that Leduff is not telling the truth.
“He is blatantly, unequivocally, undeniably lying,” said Miller.
LeDuff did not return a call for comment.
