Has Tegna Been Banished From the Cool Kids Table

When Tegna hired Mike Steib to be the company’s CEO, they hired a guy with no TV experience and it seems to have made the company an outcast.

Tegna's seems to have no relationship with "peer broadcasting groups" after Steib’s hiring.

Some examples:

1) Nextstar, Sinclair & Gray formed an ATSC 3.0 group without Tegna. It's called "Edgebeam Wireless" & Tegna was not included in the group.

2) Nexstar & Gray signed a deal to broadcast Texas Rangers games in Tegna's largest market - and other regional markets. Caveat: Tegna has managed to sign rights to some Dallas Mavericks games in Dallas & surrounding markets

3) Charlotte Hornets Partner with Gray & Capitol Broadcasting - leaving Tegna out in the cold. The Hornets partnered with Gray & Capitol Broadcasting (and not Tegna which owns stations in Charlotte & Greensboro, NC)

Signing a broadcast outsider as CEO may be preventing the company from establishing alliances with other broadcasting groups moving forward.

Maybe that’s what Tegna wants, but looking at it from afar, it’s like Tegna is no longe with the “in” crowd.
