The Cover Up is Always Worse Than the Crime

Fox News screwed up and then made it worse by trying to cover it up, at least if you are asking us.

While covering the death of singer Aretha Franklin, Fox made a graphic that showed a picture of Aretha Franklin and then another faded image of Franklin in the background. Problem was it was Patti LaBelle and not Franklin that was in the background image.

It was a stupid mistake, but it was made only worse when Fox News tried to explain how the mistake happened.

In the statement issued by Fox News they said, “Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret.”

While Franklin and LaBelle have shared a stage together, that was not the case in the image that they used of LaBelle.

The background image of LaBelle that Fox News used was from a performance that LaBelle did by herself.

It was from 2014 at the “Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House.”

Franklin was also at that event, but at no time did Franklin and LaBelle share the stage, so she could not have been, "obscured in that process" because she was never in that image.

It seems that Fox News tried to make up an excuse, instead of just admitting to a stupid mistake and moving on.
