Dallas Anchors Come Together for a Good Cause

The Dallas stations are bringing their Anchors together for a good cause.

The week before Thanksgiving , all four D-FW broadcast stations — ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC — will begin airing a public service announcement urging viewers to donate their money and time to Giving Tuesday — the national day of goodwill that follows the consumer gluttony of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The 30-second spot, with slight variations tailored for each station, features the evening anchor cohort of Meredith Land, KXAS, Fox's Clarice Tinsley, KDFW, ABC's John McCaa WFAA, and CBS' Doug Dunbar, KTVT.

The anchors hope to help Dallas retain its standing as #GivingTuesday's most generous community — a title we earned last year by raising $22 million in a single day, about $6 of every $100 raised throughout the entire country.

This year's goal is $25 million on Nov. 27 for 500 North Texas nonprofits — up from 200 last year, said Dallas' United Way CEO Jennifer Sampson, who marshals the Giving Tuesday effort here.

“It’s very rare that we get together, especially during a key ratings book,” Land said. “But it’s a lot of fun when you know you are giving back to the community. We all want D-FW to be the best and raise the most money of anywhere.”

“Unfortunately,” said Dunbar, “in our busy society and our world, we sometimes need a hashtag — a specific day and a campaign — to get the word out for something that should be top of mind on a daily basis.”
