Pink Slips to Fly at CNN

CNN's Jeff Zucker has called this the "golden age of CNN."

So one has to wonder why CNN is planning to layoff up to 50 people in the "golden age"?

Vanity Fair reports that CNN planning to swing the ax on the digital side, with as many as 50 jobs around the globe scheduled to be eliminated this week.

Wait! Isn't digital the future? Isn't that the area that TV stations and networks are told to beef up and put heavy emphasis?

Maybe if Jeff Zucker didn't go out and blow $25 plus million bucks to You Tube star Casey Neistat and his app Beme at the urging of his teenage son, CNN would not have to make the cuts.

Of course, the biggest cut coming to CNN might be Jeff Zucker himself.

Many expect that Zucker will be pushed out if/when AT&T gets the Department of Justice to sign off on it's $85 billion acquisition of Time Warner, which includes CNN.

A trial to adjudicate that matter is set to kick off on March 19 in Washington, D.C.

Then maybe, just maybe, CNN can go back to being a cable news network.
